19-year-old former West Bromwich Albion Academy winger / forward Dean Nicholson has teamed up with United for a one-week trial spell as the pre-season kicked off in earnest today.

Nicholson, who came through the Youth ranks with the Baggies, trained with John Ward and the lads this morning and will stay with the squad provisionally until the end of next week.

John Ward said: "Pre-season is a time when a lot of clubs take the opportunity to look at players, and we've asked Dean to come in and train with us until the end of next week. That means that we will be able to have a look at him and see what he can do, and it also gives him the opportunity to get himself fit ahead of the new season. He'll come here and work with us, as he did today, and then we can take it from there."
