DOBIE DEAL DONE
Scott Dobie has now signed his two-and-a-half year contract and will join up with his new team mates for a full training session tomorrow morning.
John Ward told us: "He has got the experience to cover and help out with a relatively young front line of Joe and Danny Graham, who do exceptionally well. In addition to that, Danny Carlton has just come out of non-league, so he adds a bit of experience up there."
"Scott knows the level, he knows the football club, and he wants to get his career rolling again," he continued. "He's been forgotten a little bit in recent years, and his previous career has gone past. He wants to push on again now, and I'm happy to bring him in and give him that opportunity. It's a football club that's dear to him, we all know that, so it's a very good move for him and for us. In a sense he's got to come here and play, he's got to come and do it, because he's got that responsibility to the area, as well as to the football club. We can utilise both of those things, his experience plus his desire to do well, and I think they will prove to be a big motivating factor for him."
"He can play up front and he can play wide on the right," he said. "I have already spoken to him about that, and he's happy to play in either role. As people are aware, we've been looking at the position on the right, and it is something that he knows how to do. He's played in that area to good effect at West Bromwich Albion, and got promotion in to the Premiership as well, so he's played at a high level and knows the score. He's not like a young player who needs to be taught the ropes because, in fact, he can help us to do that with the younger players."
"Whether it's wide right or strengthening the squad down the middle of the pitch, I know I've got a good footballer here," he concluded. "For me, the important thing was to get him in, then we can sort out where to put him. It will help me with that position wide on the right and, having spoken to him, he's happy with it if that turns out to be the case."
As usual, all transfers remain subject to approval from, and registration with, the Football League. As stated earlier, it is anticipated that clearance will be completed to ensure that Scott Dobie will be available for selection for Friday evening, if required.
Please note - The transfer conditions stipulate that Scott Dobie will not be available to face Nottingham Forest during the 2007 / 08 season.
