Graham Kavanagh came back into the starting line up for the visit of Millwall with United looking to extend their encouraging run of two consecutive clean sheets.
United created the first opening of the evening when Scott Dobie cushioned a ball into the box down for Graham Kavanagh to volley. He struck it well but Forde dived low to parry it away.
Matt Robson created space wide on the left on 6 minutes when he dropped his shoulder and sprinted forward and his low cross was met by Dobie at the front post. His volley was firm but it was always going wide.
Adam Collin had to come and punch a Hackett corner clear at the other end, but it was the visitors who took the lead from nowhere on 12 minutes when Forde pumped the ball into the United half. Morison was on to the flick on and Collin was stranded as the ball lobbed over his head.
Good pressure from United and a string of corners eventually led to a cross from the right that Dobie was able to challenge for. He got there ahead of Robinson but he couldn't keep the header down and it sailed over the bar.
A Richard Keogh cross on 28 minutes dropped towards the far post and Matt Robson tried to make it his, but he couldn't get any power on his header and Forde was able to gather.
A rare attack from Millwall on 31 minutes found them getting forward in numbers and Alan Dunne picked out Schofield 12 yards from goal. His header was neat but Collin was well placed.
A patient build up from United brought another centre from Robson and that eventually skipped through to Hurst. He tried to control but he was leaning back and his elaborate volley was skied into the air.
Another ball over the top left Carlisle flat-footed and Morison got the merest of touches as Collin advanced. The ball bounced off the big stopper and that was enough to prevent the marauding forward from applying the finishing touch.
Chris Hackett then sent a long range shot just wide as Millwall employed some slick passing movement, but Forde had to be ready at the other end when Keogh twisted away in the box and sent the ball to Robson. He poked a right foot volley through Dunne's legs and the Lions keeper had to tip it away as it threatened to creep in.
Half Time: United 0 - 1 Millwall
The second half started with a whipped free kick from Harte that took three attempts to clear, and a Robson cross caused more problems before a strong tackle from Taiwo brought a whistle from the referee.
Carlisle lived dangerously on 51 minutes when Morison broke from deep and strode on into the box. Collin stayed big and got a vital hand to it that was just enough to divert it wide of the upright.
Clayton and Kavanagh had shots blocked as United tried to up the pace, but it just wouldn't fall in what was a packed visitors area.
Hackett sent a 20 yard free kick over the bar as the game lost some of its zip, and Richard Offiong came on to replace Dobie with 25 minutes left to play.
The tall Shaun Batt shrugged off the attentions of Horwood on 67 minutes but his drive was right at Collin and easy to deal with.
Darren Ward had a go when he found unexpected space from a half clearance, but he couldn't keep it down, and Morison was millimetres away from doubling the lead when he went on another long, mazy run. He tried to squeeze it in but it shaved the upright on its way behind for a goal kick.
Disaster struck for Carlisle on 78 minutes when a hopeful ball into the box teased Collin off his line. He collided into his own man and was taken out of the equation and the left Morison with the easy task of heading the ball into an empty net.
A late header from Livesey, with a possible touch from Bridge-Wilkinson, gave the Cumbrians late hope but Schofield finished off another bright run from Morison to wrap up the points.
