New signing Vincent Pericard was called into the starting line up for United's long trip to Huish Park with Joe Anyinsah moving across to the right wing berth.

Bridge-Wilkinson and Taiwo provided cover in midfield with Graham Kavanagh suspended, with Ian Harte at right back for the injured David Raven.

Debut boy Vincent Pericard had the first chance of the game when he controlled a free kick into the box on his chest. A quick spin took him away from Caulker but he couldn't keep the volley down as he sent it over the bar.

A good spell of possession brought a corner when Horwood skipped into the area from a defence splitting pass from Robson. Caulker miscued his clearance and sent it back across the 6-yard area, but Yeovil were able to break with Ryan Mason showing pace. He fed it inside to Williams, but he leaned back when he shot and put it high into the stand.

The Glovers almost scored on 11 minutes when the Cumbrians struggled to deal with a high ball into the box. It eventually came to Mason and he cut it back across the face of goal. Sam Williams raced in but he couldn't apply the finishing touch.

The home side did grab the lead 60 seconds later when Ryan Mason was handed acres of space in midfield. He strode forward and crunched the ball into the bottom corner with a crisp finish from 19-yards.

Scott Dobie whisked a half volley over the bar when Pericard cushioned the ball into his path, and Anyinsah had a brief glimpse of the target when he came in from the right to meet a deep Horwood cross.

Shaun McDonald tested Pidgeley with a fierce shot on 29 minutes when he went past Harte and angled in towards the penalty area. His connection was strong and the United stopper had to parry it before being able to gather.

Anyinsah and Pericard then combined to make space on the right but Dobie screwed his left foot volley well wide when he went for an early attempt.

Shaun McDonald showed great persistence in the 37th minute when he clipped the ball past the challenge of Bridge-Wilkinson. Williams peeled away and the ball was lobbed into his path, but his goal bound volley curled at the last moment and whipped millimetres wide of the post.

A Scott Murray free kick went all the way through to Pidgeley as Yeovil pressed forward and they doubled their lead on 43 minutes when Welsh came out on top in a 50:50 challenge with Horwood. Ryan Mason beat the offside trap and raced clear before sliding the ball through the dive of the stranded Carlisle keeper.

McCarthey saved from Pericard as he battled his way through just before half time and Dobie headed over from a Robson corner when Carlisle tried to get a foothold in the game ahead of the break.

Half Time: Yeovil 2 - 0 United

United saw more of the ball at the start of the second half and they were handed a lifeline on 53 minutes when it bobbled around inside the Yeovil area.

Dobie took a touch to get it out from under his feet and Forbes, committed to the tackle, took the legs from under the big striker to gift United a spot kick. Ian Harte stepped up to take it and he buried it in the left hand corner with McCarthey at full stretch.

Pidgeley had to tip a long range shot from Mason over the bar as the Glovers tried to restore their two-goal lead but United almost equalised when Harte completed a crunching tackle on the half way line. Taiwo fed it to Pericard but his shot bounced wide as it deflected off Caulker.

Confusion in the area saw Dobie and Pericard battle with McCarthey when the keeper dropped to the floor on the hour mark and Keogh coudn't convert the cut back when Dobie smashed it across the goal line.

Substitute Kevan Hurst brought a diving save out of McCarthey when he was left unguarded 23-yards out as, just for a moment, it seemed that it might creep into the bottom corner.

Hurst was handed a gilt edged opening on 79 minutes when Horwood rode two challenges and linked with Pericard. He sent it in for Dobie who, in turn, laid it on for Hurst. His shot had pace but the keeper was well placed to deal with it.

Kalala sent a volley over the bar when Yeovil relieved some of the pressure that was building with a prolonged spell of possession, and Keiran Murtagh wrapped it up on 87 minutes when he finished off a flowing move with what was his first touch of the game when Welsh dinked it into his path.
