The day out in Somerset will be talked about for some time by those hardy supporters who made the long trip down to Huish Park but sadly not for positive reasons. Tail backs on the M5 meant the Official Supporters buses were stuck in traffic and with no chance of a delayed kick off Cumbrians were still arriving at the game 25 minutes into the first half after a journey that had taken 9 hours. To make matters worse because of the very late call by Yeovil to make this fixture all ticket some fans had arranged to have their tickets brought to the game and even if they had managed to be there for kick off were stuck outside waiting for those with their tickets to arrive.
Once inside Huish Park things didn't get any better for the travelling support. In the second minute the first of a hatfull of yellow cards was handed out by referee Mike Thorpe when Yeovils Gavin Pluck made a late tackle on Brendan McGill. Before United had any time to settle, in the fourth minute the impressive Kevin Gall scored the first of his two goals. The move came from an inswinging corner taken by Lee Johnson, Mattie could only half clear the ball which eventually seemed to get trapped under Gall's foot. Reacting quickly he toe poked the ball inside the uncovered back post from about a yard out.
In the 17th minute Gall was to double his tally when the ball came to him at the edge of the box, shooting a right footed volley into the bottom right corner. Two minutes later Mark Birch was substituted as Carlisle changed formation to three at the back with Adam Rundle entering the fray in midfield.
Carlisle were now under the cosh with little sign of the cohesive passing seen on Tuesday night. Mattie Glennon was kept busy as Kevin Gall searched for his hat trick. At the other end Darren Kelly was unlucky after Adam Rundles outswinging corner came to him at the edge of the 18 yard box, his right foot shot hit the crossbar and was gathered by the Yeovil keeper.
In as further bid to shore up midfield, in the 34th minute Craig Russell gave way to Mark Summerbell, with Richie Foran moved to a forward position. The half came to a close after two minutes of extra time with Yeovil still on the attack. Paul Raven had to stretch to toe poke the ball away from the ever dangerous Kevin Gall who yet again had made himself space to run through the defence. Yeovil had followed their script and given the home fans plenty to cheer about in their first home league fixture. For United the whistle couldn't come soon enough.
The second half saw Carlisle United have more of the play, creating opportunities but unable to capitalise with any end product. Two corners in the 46th minute, taken by Paul Simpson were cleared by the Yeovil defence. In the 53rd minute good work by Foran got the ball to Billy on the edge of the box but his shot sails over the bar and in the following five minutes both Foran and Livingstone reached for headers from inside the penalty area but send their shots over.
Whilst Yeovil made fewer chances, they were always ready to take full advantage of any breaks and in the 77th Kevin Gall put in a cross from the right channel which found Kirk Jackson 6 yards out, his low right footed shot flew into the back of the net giving the home side an unassailable 3-0 win.
The last ten minutes saw Yeovil run down the clock with two substitutions and Carlisle unable to conjure up any decisive moves. A thoroughly disappointing day for the Cumbrians which left a vocal home crowd cheering their team, who are now top of Division 3.
