LOOK AFTER THE BASICS

Posted on: Mon 07 Sep 2009

Winger Matt Robson picked up his second man-of-the-match award against Tranmere on Saturday having set up two of the goals and played a part in a large majority of United's attacking play.

He spoke to the press about the game afterwards, and said: "I am enjoying my football at the moment.

"Today was a great lift for the team and for the fans. We have been playing well for a few weeks and a performance like that has been coming. We felt right today and I think we'd have got that type of result if we'd been playing against ten or eleven men."

On the influence he has been having on recent games, he told us: "It's been a message from the gaffer for us to get the ball down and get it wide.

"He then wants us to get quality deliveries into the box, and I think that's what we have been doing. It's a case of looking after the basics and making sure that we don't over complicate things."

Having seen the sending off incident first hand, he explained: "The first tackle was a blatant booking because he did catch me.

"Then 20 seconds later he got me again, and whether the referee needed to send him off or not, I'm not sure. He caught me with his forearm rather than with his elbow, so I don't suppose the officials had much choice."
