YOU WANT TO BE PART OF IT
New keeper Ben Williams gave us a few moments out of his evening to talk about his move to Brunton Park.
He said: "The move has happened fairly quickly for me, just over the last couple of weeks really. I met with the manager and we had a chat, and from the moment I started talking to him I knew that it was somewhere I wanted to come. Playing in the same league, I've obviously seen Keiren in action, and I know that he is a very good goalkeeper. He has moved on now, so it's up to me to stake my claim to be number one, and bring my game to Carlisle so that people will see what I can do. I've come here to play and to progress my career, and I feel like I've come to the right place to do that."
"It didn't take long for me to make up my mind about coming here," he added. "Everyone, from the manager and directors, to the staff that I have met around the place, have been extremely positive about where they want the club to go, and about the direction that the club is heading. When you see where the club has finished, and what it has done over the last few years, then it makes you want to be part of something like that. It was quite an easy decision for me to make in the end."
"Having been here before with Crewe," he told us, "I know what it can be like when the fans get behind their team. I'm looking forward to that. I definitely want to be playing in front of them and helping the team to move on. Like I say, I want to be playing every week, but I know that isn't going to be easy. I have to prove myself, show the manager that I'm going to do a job for him, and make it very hard for him to leave me out. I've spoken to him about that, and I know what he expects, so I'll be working very hard from the moment we get back for pre-season training."
"The set up here has always impressed me," he admitted. "I've been up here at some point in both of the last two seasons, with Crewe, and it is a club that you can feel has a buzz about it. You hear from the dressing room that it's a great team spirit, and the football has been there, on the pitch, for everyone to see. It'll be good to meet up with everyone and become a part of that. I've kept myself fit anyway, working with a few of the lads down at Gresty Road over the last few weeks, so I'm definitely raring to go. To be honest, I can't wait for it all to start."
"I started at Old Trafford, and that was a great experience," he said. "I think that has stood me in good stead for the rest of my career. When I first went there, Peter Schmeichel was first team keeper, and then it was Mark Bosnich. He was followed by Fabien Barthez and then Tim Howard. All of them were excellent to learn from, so I think I was quite lucky on that score. Hopefully I'll be bringing the things I've learned to Brunton Park, and I'll be putting them in to practice here."
