KEEP THE HOME FORM GOING

Posted on: Thu 14 Feb 2008

The game against Huddersfield on Tuesday was an entertaining affair, with United creating a series of very decent openings.

However, and just as importantly, was a superb save just before half time. We caught up with Keiren Westwood to get him to talk us through it.

"I've had a couple of people say that it must be nice to get the bragging rights over Matty for a little while," he said. "But I think it is far more important than that. I mean, that's ten in a row and a new record. How long has there been football at the club for - and we have put our names down, made some history, and that's very nice for us all."

"In terms of League One, the results went for us on Tuesday as well," he told us. "Forest and Leeds was a draw, so those things have gone in our favour. I suppose what people will look at will be the fact that we'd be even better off, if only we could have picked up another couple of results away from home, but we're in a good position so it's all to play for."

"When Evan dropped that header short I suppose things could have ended up going wrong," he acknowledged. "If it'd been away game then I'd have probably missed it and ended up getting sent-off, because that's how our luck is going on the road. Seriously though, it was just nice to do something for the boys, nice to be able to contribute my bit to a win, because at the end of the day we're all trying to do well for each other. As long as I'm doing my bit then I'm happy."

"I was pleased in the end because it all happened right on half time," he added, "and I suppose the game might have been different if they'd scored then. The first bit was just instinctive really, you know, get to the ball before their lad. Then I got up and saw Andy Booth and thought: 'Oh come on, I've got to take him on.' So I went straight round Boothy no problem, and was planning to just zing it right foot down the middle, and then I realised the next lad was actually a bit closer to me, so I thought: 'Yeah, now might be a good time to get rid!' I got away with it though."

"The second half was a little bit scrappy for a while ,and there seemed to be a lot of niggles and free-kicks," he told us. "Fortunately we got the second and, although I wouldn't say that killed it completely, we were always in control after that. Winning gives you confidence, but winning and playing well is a real boost , and that's what we did against Huddersfield."

"Unfortunately we conceded a really sloppy goal at the end, and that is really, really annoying," he said. "We always, always want a clean sheet. As I say, if we can just pick up our away form, starting at Crewe, then we can really push on and who knows what could happen. If we keep going with this run of home form. and start adding those extra points, then the play-off's are certainly within sight  ... and who knows what else."
