United claimed a vital three points against Crewe on Saturday, and almost as importantly the boys at the back got another clean sheet under their belts.

After the game, Dave Raven told us: "I suppose it was one of those days when we never really looked like losing the game, but we had to make sure we kept our focus and kept our level right so that we got the result".

"In the first half, we had a lot of possession and a lot of decent play," he said, "but we couldn't get the breakthrough we needed. That made it important that we didn't ease off in the second half. Obviously, Joe has eventually got us the goal, but after that perhaps we just eased off a little ... or maybe they stepped it up a bit. I don't know, but 1-0 is one of those scorelines that can put you on edge, because you know that it doesn't take a lot to throw away. We came through in the end though, which is the main thing. It's a good three points and one that you look back on at the end of the season and say - hey, we did the job there."

"We seemed to have a lot of efforts on goal in that first half," he added. "Shooting from range isn't something that the gaffer had specifically asked us to do, in fact he actually thought we'd get more joy by getting down the flanks and putting balls across, because we knew what formation they were going to play. It just seemed to be the case that the lads were finding themselves in decent positions and were taking the opportunity to get their shots off. I think there were a couple of unlucky ones. Jeff hit the post early on and I think Danny Graham was unlucky not to give us the lead on a couple of occasions."

"Sometimes when that happens you can wind up thinking that it isn't going to be your day'," he admitted. "There are games when you seem to have chances and then the opposition will put one in from nowhere - but I didn't think that was ever the case in this one. I think we always felt comfortable that if we kept going, just kept getting at them then eventually one was going to go in, and I don't think we were ever in too much danger."

"At half time the gaffer was asking us to keep doing the same things," he said. "We stepped it up another gear, and eventually it paid off. In the second half I think we expected a bit more of a response from Crewe. I thought they might've tried to snatch a goal but it was a little bit strange because they didn't seem to do that. Maybe they had a game plan or whatever, I don't know, but we were able to keep doing what we were doing and fortunately enough, as I say we, were able to get the goal we needed."

"It was very much a case of just doing our jobs, to be honest," he claimed. "With me being in the back four our first concern is with keeping them out. Don't do anything silly and give away any easy goals, because we know we've got some decent players up at the other end of the pitch, and they are always likely to grab us one. If we keep the opposition out then there's a pretty good chance we're going to win the game. I had a few charges forward myself, actually, and one day I'm going to score. I think I'll do a lap of honour if I ever manage it. Like I say, the most pleasing thing to come out of the game for me is a clean sheet. I think we haven't had one for a while, and the last few games we haven't been at our best so, hopefully, this will get us back on track."
