THE LADS RESPOND TO HIM VERY WELL
Keeper Keiren Westwood made it ten clean sheets for the season against Orient on Saturday, so we had a chat with him about it after the game.
"It's a good win," he told us. "They're a good side, and to beat another team who are up there with us is excellent. I think that might be seven or eight unbeaten in the league for us now, so we just need to keep on going and keep winning. It's a long season so, as I say, we just have to knuckle down and keep it going."
"I thought we were pretty comfortable, to be honest," he admitted. "We'd heard a lot about their strike force, and Adam Boyd is obviously a good player because he's scored a lot of goals, but I thought we defended very well. They have scored a lot of goals, and we haven't conceded many, so it was a big test for us and, at the end of the day, it was us who made most of the chances and I think we could have got a few more."
"I thought I did OK today," he said. "I think perhaps people have made a bit too much out of one mistake, the one I made at Northampton. Of course you don't like making them, but from time to time it happens and you can't let it affect you too much. You've simply got to get back on your game and back to the standard you want to be at. I've taken a lot of praise and that drives people's expectations up, so you have to take the rough with the smooth. You can't expect it to be brilliant all of the time, so if you have a bad game you've just got to get over it. I'm only young, I've got an awful lot to learn and, hopefully. I might still have another 20 years in the game so there's a long way to go, and I won't be dwelling on things I can't do anything about."
"I thought we were the better side in the first half, but we came in at 0-0 so the gaffer was just trying to push us on," he told us. "Team-talks are one of his major strengths as well. It's something I've noticed since he's been here, in fact something I noticed straight away, he's quite a talker. He talks very well and I think the lads respond to him very well, which is perhaps one of the reasons why we went straight out and took the lead. Joe can take all the glory as far as I'm concerned. I really couldn't care how they go in as long as they do, so I won't be giving him stick. He's on a fantastic run, and he's turned into a massive player for us, so the longer that continues the better."
"After we scored I think people expected them to come charging back but, in fairness to the lads, they defended perfectly," he said. "In the end Orient did push on more, but they still didn't really create too much and when you consider that's 90 minutes against a really good top of the table side, then that's pretty good. I've had people say that the only danger was Adam Boyd's 40 yarder ... but I think I had it covered ... no danger! Any lower I'd have had my hand on it."
"We've got Swansea next ,and that'll be first versus second, but we're not too worried," he told us. "This result today gives us a start, and we'll just be taking it one game at a time from here on in, and hoping for the right results."
