A GOOD DAY
Joe Garner made it 6 for the season with a deft header on Saturday, so we caught up with him afterwards to get his thoughts on the game:
"Obviously all the lads are very happy, because it was a great result," he said. "We set out to get three points, and in the end we managed to get three points, so it was a good day."
"We're a side with a lot of pride," he explained, "and at the end of the first half we knew we hadn't played very well, but we'd stuck in there and kept them to one. That was important, because as long as it's only one down then you've always got a chance, and we showed that in the way we came back."
"I'm not sure if the lads were nervous or not in the first half," he told us. "Maybe you could say that, but I think it was just one of those things. After all, we came out of the blocks OK, but then a few sloppy passes and a few mistakes started to creep in and it went from there. As I say though, fortunately we put it right in the second half. At half time the gaffer told us just to stay calm and try to play our football, and that was about it really. I think he just wanted us to relax a little and hope that our game would come back."
"As for myself, I really enjoyed it," he added. "Like everyone else I didn't think I did very well in the first half. Myself and Danny Graham didn't really give them enough to think about. I got another goal in the second half though, so I can't complain. When Bridgey got it out wide, I knew he was going to try and whip in in to the near post, so I just tried to gamble and get in front of my man. Once I'd done that it was more or less just a case of nodding it in really. I enjoyed it though. You won't get many chances against those sort of teams, so when you get them it's important you put them away .. and I avoided a booking as well! That's two in two games now."
"Three goals against any Leeds team is a tremendous achievement," he concluded, "but the lads did well and it's a great result for us and the fans. That said, we still have to go down to Luton on Tuesday and get another result, because we only get three points for this one."
