I GOT A TOUCH

Posted on: Tue 06 Nov 2007

United's third goal on Saturday has become a real matter for debate, with Leeds born striker Danny Carlton claiming his first goal for the club whilst, at the same time, midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson steadfastly maintains that his 94th minute shot was unhindered as it made its way towards the bottom corner.

With Danny Graham, Chris Howarth and Eric Kinder all backing him up on the way past, we caught up with Danny shortly after full time to get his version of events.

He said: "Bridgey has done a brilliant job over by the corner flag to be fair to him. He put it across and he's claiming it - BUT - I got a touch and I'm claiming it as well! Danny Graham said he thought I'd touched it too so, yeah, it was definitely mine. I just hope they give it to me though. It'd be my first goal and to be against Leeds would be even more special, because I'm from there."

"I know I was only on a short time, but it's still special," he added. "You do want to be on every week, playing every week, but you've just got to keep working and try and earn your place in the side. I'll keep doing that and I'm just happy to have been involved ... and to have scored, of course."

"At the end of the day it's just another good result for the lads," he told us. "We want to be up there and prove we can compete with the best of them, so it's a great result. I think the lads were a little bit nervous. It was a big occasion and for the first 60 minutes or so we definitely weren't playing our best football, but then from Si Hackney's goal onwards we came right back in to it. In the last half-hour we really kicked on and caused them problems. We defended well too, the lads at the back did a great job, so we're all very pleased."

"Even before Si scored I don't think we lost the belief that we could get something from the game," he explained. "You've got to just keeping working hard and battling away. To be fair to Si, with the quality he's got, he's always going to have a chance, and he took it. He went for it and then Joe got the second. I thought Joe worked really really hard and deserved his goal, but at the end of the day it was just a good all-round team effort. We showed a lot of spirit."

"We took our chances well," he said. "They've had a few in the first half and got one goal, but whenever we've had a chance we took it. It's put us top of the League again so we're all really pleased with that. This is a run of tough games and everyone knows it is going to be a real test for us. We've had Southend and Leeds and the lads have done brilliantly so far, but we've still got Notts Forest, Luton and then Brighton away to come as well, so there's not much point in getting carried away."
