We caught up with the Boss ahead of the Gillingham game:

"Once you get to Thursday and Friday it's very much a case of finalising the preparations. The lads know what is expected by then, and I'm pleased to say that they are looking very bright, and I am delighted about that. I'm at the point where I'm looking forward to the game immensely, which is the way it should be.

Our two home games have been excellent so far, and we want to repeat the level of performance at the very least. We can't promise the goals, although it would be nice, but we can look for the same attitude and determination.

They are an honest group, and they want to win and do well. They do look at why certain things have happened and, I must admit, that helps me to get to know them a bit better as they do that. It's interesting to see how they react to winning and to getting beat, because you can learn a lot from that. Tomorrow is a big game for me in terms of what response we get from the week of training that we have had. I now want to see them take it on to the pitch against Gillingham. I also want to see how they recover from the result last week.

I've talked to the lads today about players like Facey, who leads from the front, and Dickson, who has come in on loan, and he is scoring goals. Delroy Facey knows this level like the back of his hand, and they are two examples of very good players who will take a mile if you give them an inch. It's important that we don't give room to people of that ability, because they will hurt us. If we have the ball, then it's equally important that we use it properly.

Jeff Smith has found that his foot has been a bit sore since he had the stitches, so we'll be having a look at him again tomorrow, but Joe Garner is available again, so it tends to come in swings and roundabouts. For him to get 5 cards, it was a little too early in the season for that to be happening, in my opinion, but he's a young lad who is still learning his trade. I've told him that he needs to be a bit more careful, but the last thing I would want to do would be to take that aggression out of his game. It's just a case of getting it right and making sure that he channels it correctly, and hopefully I can help him to do that.

Greg signing this week was really important. The players know him, and it helps to keep that stability. The players have had three managers this season, and it is so important that we settle that down. I'm now here for the duration and Greg has decided that he wants to stay, which is absolutely brilliant. Hopefully Dennis will stay as well, and that side of the club is now well on the way to being totally settled. I think that kind of loyalty to the club from Greg is a magnificent example for the players, and it can only rub off on them. I've had a great two and a half weeks with the players and they seem to have accepted the situation, and we're all working together now. It's a big few weeks coming up for us, so that's exactly the kind of spirit that we are going to need.

It is our One Game One Community game this weekend, and we can only account for our Football Club, but it is an initiative that we take very seriously. We will be supporting it tomorrow with various activities, and I know that the players give it their full backing as well."
