22-year-old central defender Danny Livesey scored his 10th goal for the club in the 2-0 victory over Huddersfield yesterday, whilst also playing his part in the third clean sheet of the season.
Fresh from a two-year contract extension, signed just ten days ago, things just keep going from good to better for a player who seems to be improving with every game.
He told us after the match: "It's great to score. I've broken my duck in the League now, and a lot earlier than last year. I don't think I scored until the last couple of games last season, and it's always nice to chip in with a few. I'm telling Greg that I'm a natural sniffer, but I think it was just a case of being in the right place at the right time for that one. I thought the first attempt from Marc was going in, and then I thought Danny Graham's was going in, but luckily mine did get there."
"We said before the game that the clean sheet was important," he said. "The whole team deserve credit for getting another one today. We worked hard, we closed them down up front, and they had to resort to long balls. That makes things easier if we are just mopping up the long balls that are coming at us. We are working so hard as a team, and we are getting our rewards for it at the moment."
"The team is playing well, because most of us have been together for a year now," he explained. "We all know how each other plays, and the people that have come in are doing really well. In defence, Dave has come in, and we know what he is all about. Arnie has come in to play at right back, and he gives his all every game. Things have come together really well, and we're all pleased about that."
"We got the second goal today," he added, "and that's something we haven't done so far this season. We've been playing fantastically, but we haven't been scoring the goal to kill things off. It was nice to get it yesterday and give ourselves a bit of a comfort zone. It means you can relax and play your football a bit."
"This is a hard ground to come to," he said. "Somebody said in the dressing room that it's something like 15 years since we came here and got a win. It's always nice to set a run like that straight. Looking at the table, it's taken us to second spot as well, which is great. We've deserved the results so far this season, so not many people will be able to argue with where we are right now. I Haven't seen Matty Glennon since the game finished, but I'm sure I'll get the chance to give him a little bit of stick at some point, because I know he'd do the same to us. It's all in fun, because we're all good mates with him from when he was with us at Brunton Park."
On the run of 3 games in a week that we are currently in the middle of, he told us: "I know it's very early doors yet, but you just want to keep winning. The League has just got off and running, but we want as many points as possible as quickly as possible. Playing well against Coventry will help with that, so we want to win that one as well. I know we keep saying it, but it's a case of keep working hard and keep winning, and take each game as it comes."
