A BIT OF NEEDLE

Posted on: Thu 28 May 2009

United defender Peter Murphy has had a steroid injection in his right knee as a follow-up to the medial ligament and articular surface problems he encountered at various stages last season.

Murphy, 28, attended the Caldew Hospital for the procedure and will return to see his specialist in mid-June, where he is expected to be given the all-clear.

The procedure, described as fairly routine, will now be given time to settle prior to the hard-working centre back returning to his summer fitness regime.

The Republic of Ireland defender, United's longest serving player, made 30 appearances last season and has made almost 350 in total since joining the Cumbrians in August 2001.
