WEEKLY INJURY UPDATE
Dolly gives us the latest news from the treatment room:
Jeff Smith is doing well. We've started some running work today, and we'll build that up over the course of this week. We'll see if we can get him involved in some training, probably early next week. It might come too late for him to be involved with the first team this season, but at least we've made progress and he'll be fit before the end of the season.
Shaun Vipond has had his knee brace moved to allow up to 90 degree bend now. That enables him to do more functional work in the gym. We'll increase that over the next week or so, and the brace will come off next week. Then we can get him in to some CV work, swimming and some leg strengthening excersises.
Joe Garner is also coming along nicely. I'm glad to say that he had a little boy last week, so congratulations to him and his partner, and to their baby Alfie. I haven't seen him this week, but we did see him at the game on Saturday. He almost has a complete range of movement now, so we will continue to work on the strength around the quad area.
Paul Reid went over on his right ankle on Saturday and, unfortunately, he's damaged the ligament on the outside. He's going to really struggle to be available for this weekend, but we'll see if we can get the swelling down with a view to him being involved against Bournemouth. We'll have more of an idea on whether he will be able to achieve that, or not, by the end of this week. It's not as bad as it could be but, at this stage of the season, any ankle ligament problem will keep a player out for more than a couple of days. It's disappointing for him, but these things happen in football.
Peter Murphy had a tooth knocked out on Saturday afternoon. He's fine, but he'll have a trip to the dentist this week to get it sorted out. It'll either be capped, or whatever the dentist recommends.
Grant Smith has a bit of a tight calf at the moment. We've treated that today, and he's done a good part of the session with the lads. He'll be fine and ready for selection for the game at Millwall.
That's all for now,
Keep well,
Dolly
