LATEST INJURY NEWS
Dolly gives us the latest injury information:
Joe Garner is progressing nicely. The surgeon is very happy with the way things are going, and the swelling is coming down nicely. We just have to keep going slowly but surely, and make sure that we do things properly.
Paul Thirlwell is doing really well at the moment. We have actually started some light jogging work with him this week, and we will hopefully build that up over the next week or two, and get him into some twisting, turning and some football work. There may be a chance that we will have him back in a couple of weeks time. That's excellent news for the run in, in case we need the extra body, so he's on a bit of a high at the moment.
Jeff Smith is coming along slowly. The bruising is out of his ankle now, and the swelling is coming down. We have to work on that and on some range of movement exercises over the next week or two, and gradually increase his rehab. He's probably about a month away from getting back to some heavier functional work.
Shaun Vipond twisted his knee last week in training. He's been to see a surgeon, and he's sprained the medial ligaments in his knee. Unfortunately he's been put in a hinged brace for five or six weeks. I'll be altering the degrees on that every week or two, but it does mean that his season is over. He has had a bit of a nightmare to be honest, missing the two most important parts of the season. He missed the first two or three weeks with a nerve problem in his thigh, and he's missing the last few weeks with a knee problem. It just hasn't been his season.
Si Lakeland has recovered from his chickenpox and came back in to training today. He'll be available this weekend for the Youth team.
After the weekend of exertion that we just went through, I'm delighted to report that we have no new injuries. Flying down to Leyton Orient helped enormously, particularly with regards to tiredness in the legs. They all came in last Sunday and did a little bit of jogging and stretching work with Greg, then we dumped them in the ice bath. You will have seen on Monday that they looked very fit, and strong, so we were all happy with that.
That's all for now,
Keep well,
Dolly
