Teamtalk reported on Friday that Karl Hawley, who joined Preston last week, is hoping that United fans will understand his desire to better himself.

He said: "It's my ambition to play as high as I can, and that's what every plater wants to do. Carlisle will always have a place in my heart, it's a great club and they gave me a chance to show what I could do. I have a lot of respect for the people there. I'm sure there will be a minority who will have something to say, and they are entitled to their say, but I'm just hoping that it's not too bad."
