Congratulations go to James Sinclair who won our Junior Reporter competition for 2010 after producing some stirling work when he brought his camera along to the club and snapped everything that moved.
James, 14, has now been entered into the national competition as Carlisle United's representative.
Here is the written work that James submitted as part of his entry:
As a young reporter at Carlisle United I got to take photographs of the team training and I worked with lots of great people, learning a host of new skills.
It was just generally a great experience. It was really exciting to see players that you see on TV and at the games training and enjoying themselves. To be able to then take photographs of them was a once in a lifetime experience.
As a young reporter here at Carlisle United I got to take part in a press conference and watch the manager, Greg Abbott, talk about current team affairs and answer a host of questions from local and national press.
The staff were extremely friendly, which made it much easier to settle and learn, and it was a really interesting insight into how a media department works at a football club.
Working with photographs was really enjoyable. Once the photos have been taken you have to edit them on a computer and then store the originals. Photos may be used in the programme or other club publications, or on the website. The website has a gallery and shows images of all aspects of club activities. Learning how to process photos, make thumbnails and size them for the gallery was a challenge, but one I enjoyed.
I alos got the opportunity to watch the players train indoors, and I had to adapt and learn how to take photographs indoors in the low light. I was allowed to do some interviews with the first team players, and that was a very nerve-wracking thing to do, but it is worth it once you have finished and great fun to do.
I think the best thing about the whole experience was getting so close to the players and watching them work. It's not often that anyone gets the chance to watch a full training session, and making the gallery of your photos is not far behind being better than taking them.
Having now had a look behind the scenes at a football club I know that it would be something that I would love to do in the future. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend anyone who gets the chance to enter the competition next season, or who may want to do a bit of work experience with the media department, to take the opportunity with both hands.
It has been great fun and a really enjoyable experience.
