A GRAND DAY OUT

Posted on: Fri 05 Oct 2007

London Branch member Neil Jardine has given us his version of events from the trip to Bournemouth last weekend.

Sorry for the delay. Neil, as we battled against gremlins and technology in a bid to get your document open!

If there was ever a game for the faint hearted this was it.

A game with goals, great saves and the odd bad foul. The game started well with two shots from Hackney which went disastrously wide. Then with about 15 minutes gone Bournemouth had their first shot which was easily saved by Keiren Westwood. With most of the possession going to Carlisle a shot from Bournemouth was rare.

After about 25 minutes Carlisle got a quick break where Joe Anyinsah managed to force a corner, Danny Livesey coming very close with a header.

Finally a breakthrough came after 27 minutes with Asmir Begovic (Bournemouth Keeper) spilling a shot from Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Joe Garner finding the back off the net. A long spell of Bournemouth pressure was ended when a nasty tackle on Joe Garner resulted in a free kick on the half way line and a booking for Bournemouth's Jason Pearce.

Zigor Aranalde's wicked left foot kick sailed harmlessly into Begovic's hands only for the German to drop it into his own net to make it 2-0. The chant "who's a dodgy keeper " seems to stick in your mind.

After half time the Cherries seem to be the better team piling on the pressure. But this pressure was met by fierce resistance from the Cumbrians. After 9 minutes of chances Jo Kuffour managed to tuck in a rebound. Five more shots were rained down on the Blues goal but were met by some amazing saves by Keiren Westwood.

Finally a break by Bridge-Wilkinson released Joe Garner who whipped in a cross which was met perfectly by Joe Anyinsah and made it 3-1.

Carlisle squad: Westwood, Raven, Aranalde, Bridge Wilkinson, Livesey, Murphy, Lumsdon, Graham (Carlton), Garner, Hackney (Smith), Anyinsah (Gall).
