NEW ADVERTISERS SNAP UP SPACE

Businesses are flocking to support Carlisle United by snapping up advertising boards round the pitch at Brunton Park for the new season.
Despite fears sparked by the credit crunch, a total of 94 perimeter hoarding spaces at the Blues' ground have been sold ahead of the first home game of the 2008-09 campaign against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday August 16.
The steadily increasing number of companies wanting to advertise themselves in front of a big captive audience for a couple of hours - not to mention TV coverage - means just a few hoardings are still to be filled at Brunton Park.
Commercial Co-ordinator Jenny Anderson said: "I must admit we were a little concerned that the credit crunch would have a negative impact on our perimiter advertising for the beginning of the season but things have gone really well and I'd like to thank everyone for supporting us so magnificently. We have quite a few new advertisers this season as well as a lot of our loyal ones who have been with the club for a long time."
Among the new advertisers whose signs will be up at Brunton Park this season are Brunton Bet, Business Link, Interserve and Liberty Leisurewear. It is a complete contrast to just a five years ago when there were fewer than 30 pitch perimeter adverts sold during a whole season.
Jenny added: "When I first came to Carlisle United it was very poor. We really struggled to attract people to take our perimeter advertising. Hardly anyone was willing to do it but we have built it up on the back of the success of the club and businesses now want to be associated with the success at the club. Last season we ended up running out of space and we are heading along those lines again for this season."
