YOUTH: Queen of the South 0 - 0 United

Youth team draw in trip north of the border

United were made to work for a share of the honours at Palmerston Park on Tuesday afternoon as Queen of the South enjoyed good spells both sides of the break.

But the Doonhamers didn't have it all their way as the young Cumbrians played well on the break and picked their moments to get forward.

A tight first half ended with a flurry of chances for the hosts and they thought they'd grabbed the lead in time added on when a fierce shot whisked past Fowler. It smashed back off the upright and Douglas was able to hook it clear.

Robson had to hook a downward header off the line as the home side pushed men forward in the second half and Bradbury went close at the other end when he curled a precise 20-yarder into the keeper's hands.

Pearson rifled a cleanly struck effort from distance right at the keeper but Queens finished on top as they struck the outside of the post and brought a parried save out of Fowler with an intricate one touch move which ended with a decent attempt.

Half chances came and went as the clock ticked down and it was handshakes all round as the final whistle blew on what had been an entertaining game.

United - Fowler, Hurley, Robson, Douglas, Pearson, Holt (Brown 78), Rudd (Breen 46), Taylor, Bradbury, Hall, Salkeld.
