Carlisle United launch School Ambassador Scheme
Carlisle United Football Club launched a brand new School Ambassador Scheme last week when schools from across the region visited Brunton Park to meet the players and sign up for the season ahead.
The scheme, which pairs players with schools for the duration of the 2014/15 campaign, is designed to take the football club into the heart of the community with activities planned with the children ranging from reading classes to games and sports competitions.
Deputy managing director Suzanne Kidd said: “We contacted all of the schools in the area and we were delighted with the response we got.
“The idea is that the players will act as our ambassadors as they get out into the community and become role models for the children at these schools. Initial chats with the head teachers and staff at the schools has shown there is a real appetite for this kind of thing with some good possibilities to engage the youngsters we meet in educational activities, learning processes and, of course, with what we are doing here at Carlisle United.
“It was lovely to meet the children on our Ambassador Scheme launch day and it was wonderful for us all to see the excitement on their faces as they walked onto the pitch to meet and talk to the players. We think this scheme will be a huge success and we look forward to working closely with the schools throughout this season.”
Tracy Smith from Bolton C of E primary school said: “The club wrote to us to ask if we would be interested in joining this scheme and we thought it would be an excellent opportunity for our school council to come along and get involved.
“The children were delighted when we talked to them about it and they are now looking for different ways of involving their players in fund raising activities, school events and things like that. We’re all really happy to be part of this and we hope it will be beneficial for all parties.”
Nicola Brown from Scotby school said: “We have strong links with Carlisle United anyway so this will only serve to strengthen that further. The Community Sports Trust come along to do lots of different sports with us and the children have learned a lot about how to conduct themselves and what sport is all about.
“I think this will be a progression from that. It’s early stages but we will look to bring the players and our children together as much as possible over the course of the next year.”
