YOUTH: United 2 - 0 Shrewsbury

18 August 2015

Result from the Tuesday afternoon youth fixture

United scored a goal in both halves to pick up their first three points of the season against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cumbrians started the game well and a good passing move which included Holt and Hall almost brought the breakthrough.

Pearson's free kick from the right needed saved as the Blues piled the pressure on and the goal came in the 27th minute. Hurley found Salkeld in space on the right and his first time cross was good. Bradbury did the rest as he volleyed home from the edge of the box.

Salkeld saw a left footed shot go over the bar just before the break as United tried to finish the half with another goal.

Shrewsbury made three changes at half time and started well but it was the Blues who scored the next goal after dealing with the pressure.

Holt won it in midfield and drove forward, he got to the byeline and pulled it back leaving Hall with the easy task of tapping the ball home.

United had a goal ruled out for a handball before Shrewsbury got a controversial penalty. Bacon got down well to his right to save the spot kick and United held on to take all three points.

United: Bacon, Hurley, Douglas, Robson, Pearson (McCue 78), Rudd, Holt, Taylor, Salkeld (Egan 88), Hall, Bradbury. Subs: Fowler, Brown.
