United put in an excellent performance away at Wigan this morning but home penalties at the end of each half proved to be just too much as the Latics claimed a hard-fought 4-2 victory.
Jack Elliott and Kieran Hall got the United goals but Wigan took their chances to keep it tight all the way through.
"We played really well with some very good individual performances," academy manager Alan Moore said. "I'd go as far as to say we were the better team but, as ever, goals do change games."
