RESERVES: Bolton 1 - 1 United

30 October 2013

Update from the afternoon fixture

Midfielder Jack Lynch put United ahead in the first half in the Tuesday afternoon bounce game against Bolton but the home side battled back to equalise in what was a good game for all concerned.

“It was a very good workout for the boys,” assistant manager Davie Irons said. “There was a bit of a wind but the lads handled it well.

“Jack Lynch scored our goal from a decent passage of play after 30 minutes. There was some good passing and movement in midfield from Josh Gillies and Prince Buaben and that allowed Jack to run on. He finished it on the angle and we looked quite good for the lead at that time.

“Everybody came through the game well and we got more important pitch time for Chris Chantler and Lee Miller. Chants played a full 90 minutes and Mills played for just under an hour, and Prince Buaben got 90 minutes under his belt as well.

“Josh Gillies got a little knock, so we took him off as a precaution, but we think he’ll be fine. Overall it was a really good exercise and well worth doing.

“They equalised from the penalty spot just before the hour and both sides had chances after that. Bolton had a decent side out and our group responded in the manner we expected.

"They acquitted themselves really well and I spoke to Curtis Fleming afterwards and he was really complimentary. He agreed that it was a good game for both teams and it could well be something we do again going forward.”

United – Fleming, Sampayo, Livesey (Chisholm 85), Townsend, Chantler, Symington, Lynch, Buaben, Gillies (Brough 55), Beck, Miller (Eccleston 55). Subs – Eccles.

Goal – Lynch (30)

“The game gave us a chance to look at another player, Ben Sampayo [former-Chelsea and Brighton right back], and that is something we are very happy to do,” manager Graham Kavanagh said.

“It gives everyone a chance to look at each other in a game situation but with no real pressure attached. We’ve used trial players in a number of our reserve games and it’s something we will probably continue to do.”
