BUSINESS CLUB: Steve Cram to inspire Carlisle business community

22 February 2016

Olympic medalist to put Carlisle business leaders through their paces

Former world champion and Olympic silver medallist, Steve Cram CBE will inspire the Carlisle business community next week as part of his role as ambassador for Clydesdale Bank.

Visiting Carlisle United FC on Saturday (5 March) Steve will address around 120 Business Club members before kick-off against Northampton.

Guests will hear from Steve about his experience as a world class athlete, drawing parallels between business and sport and highlighting the importance of setting and achieving personal goals.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and lunch.

The event has been organised jointly by the Carlisle United Business Club and Clydesdale Bank.

David Hannon, Head of Centre at Clydesdale Bank’s Business and Private Banking Centre in Carlisle, said: “We’re all looking forward to having a distinguished sporting figure like Steve Cram speak to our local business community.

“Steve has great experience over many years, first as a top class athlete, then commentator and businessman, and hopefully he can pass some of his expertise on and inspire the guests.”

Phil King, Sales and Marketing Director at Carlisle United, said: “We are delighted to welcome Steve Cram to Brunton Park as part of our Business Club events schedule. The Business Club is growing year on year, both in terms of membership and the range and quality of events we hold.

“Given his background in both sport and business, Steve is a perfect speaker for our members who will appreciate an insight into his experiences and philosophy. We try to do things a little differently in terms of networking and benefits, and this is a great example of that.

“We are also very grateful to Clydesdale Bank, long term members of the Business Club, for supporting us with this event.”

Steve Cram is regarded as one of the finest middle distance runners of all time, setting world records throughout the 1980s and winning silver over 1500m at the 1984 Olympics. His winning 800m time at the 1986 Commonwealth Games still stands as a Games record.
