Nomination process open for 2016/17 charity partnership
Carlisle United will be working closely with three official charity partners once again this season following an extremely enjoyable and successful season-long partnership with Carlisle Key, Hospice at Home and the CUFC Community Sports Trust.
The aim of the charity partnership is to help to raise awareness, and hopefully some much needed resources, for some fantastic causes and the application process is open once again as we look for two new charities for the duration of the 2016/17 season.
The Carlisle United Community Sports Trust [CST], a registered charity which is self-funding through its soccer schools and county wide coaching and education initiatives, is an integral part of the club’s vital community outreach programme and will remain as one of the CUFC designated charities.
A second charity will be selected by club staff and a third charity by the fans following a short-listing and voting process.
Sales and Marketing Director Phil King said: “The charity partnership was a huge success last season and we would like to thank Carlisle Key, Hospice at Home and our own Community Sports Trust for their efforts. We set out with the scheme to bring the club closer to the community and we think we more than achieved that. That was recognised when Danny Grainger was nominated for the PFA Player in the Community Award at this season's Football League Awards.
“As we have said before, we feel it is only right and proper to support our Community Sports Trust and the fantastic work it does in the local community, but we are now looking forward to bringing two new charities into the fold for the coming season.
“Initially, we will be taking applications from charities themselves. We will then compile a shortlist which will, in turn, go through a voting process; with club staff choosing one charity and the other being chosen by fans through a public vote.
“We are asking charities to suggest how they will work with us to make the most of these opportunities and how we can best support them. It’s about fundraising but also drawing attention to and raising awareness of the cause.
"Once all three charities have been finalised we will then start to work together on a range of projects, including bucket collections and other fundraising events.”
