Striker signs one-month loan deal
"He's been out at Woking and proved he can play at Conference level. I think he scored 12 goals last season for Woking, along with his 10 or 11 goals for the under 21 side at Ipswich."
"He's scored four goals in pre-season friendlies for Ipswich, including goals against Chelsea and West Ham, so he definitely knows where the goal is and how to finish," he continued. "He's still developing and learning the game but Mick [McCarthy] has been kind enough to let him come to us for a month.
"I've been following him closely for the last six or seven weeks, but Mick wanted him to do pre-season with Ipswich before he decided what he was going to do with him.
"We made the call early in pre-season so Mick allowed him to come here. I think Peterborough and Cheltenham had also asked about him but, because we'd put the call in first, Mick was keen for him to come to us."
"I spoke closely with Mark Kennedy (U21 manager at Ipswich) about Jack," he explained. "I played with Mark in the Irish team so I know him well. I also spoke to Dave Bowman, who is their chief scout, and he told me what his strengths and weaknesses are. Overall they said he's a great kid who works hard. He wants to play on the shoulder and get in behind so he'll hopefully be a good addition to the group.
"I've said all along that I wanted another striker in so we're pleased to get this one done. We'll have him for a month and see how he goes. He'll hopefully hit the ground running and be full of confidence.
"I'm sure he'll give the group a lift and we've obviously got to try and supply chances for him. I'm looking forward to working with him and hopefully he can get us a few goals."
