INTERVIEW: We all have to take responsibility

27 November 2014

Gary Dicker ahead of the weekend visit of Newport

Midfielder Gary Dicker spoke about the importance of bouncing back following the disappointing result at Dagenham last weekend.

“We want to put things right this weekend,” he said. “Last Saturday was probably the biggest let down of the season so far because we went one goal up and we looked comfortable.

“They weren't hurting us and the goals we conceded were so bad you probably wouldn't see them in an under-16 game. The thing is, you can't just blame one person for that. We all have to take responsibility.”

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb and that was really disappointing,” he told us. “When you score two goals away from home you want to be coming away with a point at least.

“The good thing is we created more chances in the second half but we just couldn't put them away. Hopefully we can get a win on Saturday and get us back up the table.”

And on how the squad started the work of putting things right, he said: “We had a truth and honesty session on Monday and it's always good to get things off your chest, particularly if you think something should have been done another way.

“The hard part is looking back at things you've done wrong yourself. There are moments during the game when you feel you could have done things differently.

“It's important to watch things back, not just when you do good things but when you do bad things as well. Hopefully with that and the work we’ve done this week we’ll get the result we want against Newport on Saturday.”
