CONTRACTS: Defender agrees one-year deal

Former Lincoln City defender Tom Miller joins United

Carlisle United have today signed defender Tom Miller on a one-year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2016.

Miller, 24, came through the Norwich City academy system but was snapped up on a two-year deal by Glasgow Rangers following a successful trial period with the Scottish giants at the end of his YTS spell with the Canaries.

He moved from Ibrox to join League of Ireland side Dundalk in 2010 and scored once in 32 appearances before signing for Newport County during the January 2011 transfer window.

He joined Lincoln, initially on loan, in March 2012 and went on to earn the Player of the Season award for 2013/14 after agreeing a two-year deal with the club.

Miller made 118 appearances and scored 11 goals whilst with the Imps.

Head of recruitment Lee Dykes said: “He's a player we tried to get a couple of times last season but Lincoln City felt they couldn't let him go because of his value to them.

"We've had to bide our time but that has allowed us to keep an eye on him and to get to know more about him.

"It's a deal we've worked hard to get over the line and it's one we feel will have a positive impact, particularly with the type of player and character he is."
