Club statement dated 27 April 2016

Carlisle United Football Club can confirm we were aware of and shocked by comments posted on a Twitter account linked to vice-president Andy Bell yesterday which were disrespectful to the victims and families of the Hillsborough disaster which saw 96 Liverpool supporters lose their lives in tragic circumstances in 1989.

The club can assure everyone that we in no way support or condone the comments or sentiment contained within the Twitter posts. We have made many friends on Merseyside this season, through the meetings we had in both cup competitions, and we have had representatives and club presence at memorial services and events for the Hillsborough disaster on many, many occasions over the years.

Our thoughts, as ever, are with the supporters, families and people connected with Liverpool Football Club who have fought to get to the truth behind the events of that terrible day.

Mr Bell has released a statement this morning and we understand he is taking action regarding this issue.
