Vote for our Football Fans in Training project in the Community Choices poll
The CUFC Community Sports Trust received some fantastic news today when it was confirmed that one of their brand new initiatives has been shortlisted for consideration by the Cumbria Community Foundation ‘Community Choices’ funding programme – to be decided by a public vote this month.The Community Choices programme provides vital financial support to help to get community projects in Cumbria off the ground and the CST have entered their fantastic ‘Football Fans In Training’ project for this year’s selection process as part of the Improving Health and Well Being category.
CST manager John Halpin said: “The FFIT project is a new one for us but we think the concept is absolutely fantastic. It’s aimed at men and women aged between 35 and 65 who have a waist measurement of at least 38 inches.
“We’re looking to bring people together in a relaxed, fun and extremely sociable environment with the added inspiration that the venue is the local professional football club. It’s a 12-week programme and it helps participants to lose weight, lead a healthier lifestyle and improve their fitness levels.
“The package is designed so that the people who take part will learn about diet and exercise, set goals for long term health benefits, build social groups, improve self-esteem, confidence and mental well-being. That’s why we want it to be a real success.
“If we were to win the public vote and receive what is a significant amount of funding it would help us to establish, develop and grow this initiative, bringing huge benefit to over 150 local people, as well as their families and friends.
“Just one group from Swindon lost a combined 50 stones of weight between them because of this programme. We know it will be just as well received and successful here in Cumbria.”
By voting for the CUFC CST Football Fans In Training initiative you will help the CST team to deliver the programme in three local hubs – Brunton Park, Carlisle, Netherhall, Maryport and Lakes College, Whitehaven.
