Report from the FA Cup third round game
United played well and earned themselves a place in the fourth round of this season's FA Youth Cup - a trip to play Leciester City - with what can only be described as a superb team performance.2 mins - Salkeld went on a run and was fouled tight by the touchline. An excellent free kick delivery was punched by the stopper and Salkeld was onto it like a flash. His 14-yard volley had power but it flew too high.
5 mins - Rowe picked the ball up in midfield and drove at the back line. He spotted Swinburn in space and he invited him to shoot with a lovely pass. Taylor got his leg in the way but the deflection fell nicely for Wolfe. He toe-poked his effort just wide.
9 mins - Hesitation at a back pass from Olsen allowed Rowe to put Bacon under pressure. Carlisle survived as clearances from Groves and Taylor ricocheted dangerously around the box.
11 mins - A huge ball forward sent Rowe one-on-one with Bacon. He appeared to have done everything right but his placed shot skipped just wide of the upright.
12 mins - Superb stuff from Watson as he timed his tackle perfectly to stop Swinburn in his tracks.
15 mins - Swinburn took charge of a 26-yard free kick. He curled it round the wall but the ball whipped into the outside of the side netting.
18 mins - Cowburn found Watson on the half way line. He spread it to Olsen who quickly picked out Salkeld. An early cross eventually found its way to Cowburn but he shot under pressure and crunched it over the bar.
21 mins - A strange decision from Bertie saw him go to ground as he tried to keep a clearance from Murphy in play. Salkeld took over and Bertie almost conceded a needless penalty as he slid in to rectify his error.
28 mins - A deep cross from Saeed was put behind to safety by Breen. A short corner routine was followed by a cross which eventually found its way to McGowan. He shielded it and shot on the spin, but Bacon dropped low to gather it up.
34 mins - Egan and Cowburn combined to find Salkeld. He cut inside, dropped a shoulder and went for glory from 22 yards. He wasn't too far away as his effort dipped just over the angle of post and bar.
40 mins - Another short corner routine made room for Saeed to cross. Swinburn waited for a half-clearance to come his way but he was wild with his volley.
43 mins - A huge ball forward was controlled wonderfully by Kieran Hall. He took it on his chest, touched it forward and left Murphy with no chance as he smashed his shot into the bottom corner.
49 mins - Carlisle came flying out of the second half traps and a lovely move involving Egan, Salkeld and Olsen brought a back post cross. Cowburn wrapped a boot round a volley but he sent it wide.
51 mins - Holt smashed a shot over from 26-yards as space opened up in front of him.
58 mins - McGowan was put through but his shot came off Taylor and spun up nicely for Bacon to grasp.
59 mins - A good spell for the hosts brought Bertie forward. He found Swinburn and Bacon did well to save the initial shot. It somehow spilled loose but Bacon recovered to save a fierce follow-up shot.
60 mins - Wardle ran from his own half and was a whisker away as his shot bent past the upright.
65 mins - Cowburn opened himself out with a lovely touch. He spread it wide to Olsen and Murphy breathed a sigh of relief as a deflected shot hit his shin.
68 mins - Wardle went on another blistering run and rattled the base of the post as he let go from the edge of the area.
71 mins - Olsen and Cowburn passed their way forward and Adewusi called for it. He put his laces through the shot but it was always heading high.
75 mins - A loose ball was picked up by Swinburn and he dropped his shoulder as he picked a way through the Carlisle defence. Bacon stood tall to make an important save.
79 mins - Egan crossed, Hall flicked it and Cowburn took it under his wing with a nice touch. He went for an early volley and Murphy was grateful as Lund got in the way of a what was an otherwise unstoppable effort.
85 mins - Egan released Olsen, he crossed low. Ball bounced around and was cleared off the line as Hall tried to finish it off.
87 mins - Holt thumped a cut back over the bar as he came under pressure on the edge of the box.
