Reggie Lambe on his goal against Wycombe
We spoke to midfielder Reggie Lambe shortly after full time on Saturday about his goal and assist in the away win at Wycombe.“The result is massive for the lads,” he said. “Coming on the back of the Blackpool defeat, we got a win on Tuesday and we knew we had to back it up today, so we went out and did what we had to do.
“They like to lump it forward and they’re quite good at it, but we matched them in every department and I think we deserved the victory."
His sixth goal of the season came just before half time in the game when he latched onto a flick from Jamie Proctor and he explained that it definitely wasn't an accident that he was there to get on the end of it.
“The gaffer was speaking to me before the game and he said we were going to try and match them," he told us. "He told me to make sure I gambled and that I got in behind the defence if the opportunity was there, so that’s what I did. Thankfully I got on the end of it and scored.
“We were maybe a bit shocked by how much they did lump it forward but after they’d scored we settled into the game and we stuck to our game plan. That’s what we had to do to make sure we came away with the victory."
On his recent return to the starting line up, he said: “I love it here and I'm enjoying my football. I haven’t been playing lately but I’m pleased to be back in the team now and I’m just trying to keep my spot while we have a couple of injuries. We want to try and make sure we keep getting the wins and stay in that third spot as we look up to catch the other two teams.
“The players, the fans and everyone around the club wanted us to bounce back after that Blackpool game. That’s what we did. Credit to the fans for sticking with us and coming down here today to support us as well. Their support helps us a lot.
“The lads have done well too. Everyone has stuck in and dug deep and played until the end of the game, even with six minutes added time. I applaud everyone for that."
And on what the victory means to the group, he said: “We’ve sent a message to the rest of the teams around us now. Even after we beat Doncaster on Tuesday, that was a statement.
"To come here and get the victory against another top side in the league is another good step for us. We’ve just got to push on now and let everyone know how hard we’re trying to get promoted.
“The Portsmouth game is another good one to look forward to. We played them in the first game of the season and did well. I think we just need to do what we do at home. I don’t think they’ll be able to match us if we play like we have in the last two games.”
