Match report from the youth game against Bury

United’s Youth Team got back to winning ways in superb style as they put five past Bury on Saturday morning.

Having not won a league game since September, Darren Edmondson’s side banished any demons as they took an early lead through Jack Egan.

Sam Adewusi and Cameron Salkeld extended the Blues’ lead in a clinical seven minute spell, before the Shakers pulled one back before the break.

But Salkeld’s second just after the restart was added to by substitute Kieran Hall’s header to top off a five-star performance.

Edmondson was able to welcome back a number of key players to his side ahead of the game, and the hosts started on the front foot as Egan got onto Adewusi’s through ball before seeing his effort well saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Egan wasn’t to be thwarted again, however, as he handed the Blues the lead after only 16 minutes - the winger picked up the ball on the edge of the area before curling a fine effort into the bottom corner.

And the lead was doubled only three minutes later as Salkeld’s deep cross was headed across goal where the lively Adewusi arrived just in time to fire into the roof of the net.

United continued to show their ruthless edge as they added a third on 23 minutes with Salkeld surging into the area and smashing home after some patient build-up play.

The Blues could have added more before the break too - with Egan seeing an effort saved by the legs of the Bury stopper before Olsen headed over from a free-kick.

Instead it was the visitors who grabbed a goal on the stroke of half-time as they bundled the ball home from close range after United had failed to clear their lines.

Carlisle continued to dominate after the break with skipper Jordan Holt grazing the post with a drilled effort from range as they looked to extend their lead.

A fourth did come on 63 minutes after a terrific team move which saw Egan feed Kieran Olsen on the overlap, with the full-back’s low cross converted by Salkeld as he secured his brace.

Three minutes later the Blues added a fifth as substitute Hall got in on the act, glancing home a header after a deft cross from Egan.

There was precious more goalmouth action in the dying stages as United secured a sought after league win.
