MANAGER: People are going to look

7 January 2017

Keith Curle on Charlie Wyke

Manager Keith Curle confirmed this week that no approach has been made for hotshot Charlie Wyke, who scored his sixteenth goal of the campaign on Monday, despite persistent rumours linking him with a move to the Championship during the current transfer window.

“Nobody has been in touch with me about Charlie,” he said. “I’ve heard little whispers from people and I even had a look to see who was [scouting] at the game on Monday,. I think it was Rotherham, Wigan, Preston and a couple of Scottish clubs.

“People are going to look. I do it when I look at players in the level below to see who is scoring goals, what sort of age they are and what sort of characteristics they’ve got. League One and Championship clubs will be looking to see who is scoring goals on a consistent basis in our division.

“Charlie will continue to attract attention because he’s the right age and I’ve said it before, he will score goals whatever level he’s at. I think Charlie has the sort of personality which means he doesn’t mind the attention.

“He’s a centre forward and he’s going to build his career on scoring goals. He likes scoring goals and there are other sides of his game which I think he’s still improving on and working on. He’s a brave lad, he knows where the goal is and he wants to score more. That won’t change whatever level he’s playing at.”
