Keith Curle ahead of the trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday
Manager Keith Curle spoke to us about the trip to Accrington Stanley tomorrow as the Blue Army prepares to travel in numbers for one of the shortest trips of the season.“We always have a good following when we go there,” he said. “The fans are always very vocal and we need to make sure we put in a performance we can all be proud of. Our players rise to that and we know with the numbers we’re bringing that it will be like a home fixture for ourselves.
“I believe I’m putting out a team which will help to raise the atmosphere level with our supporters and I think there’ll be a lot of goal mouth action from both teams. Our job will be to nullify the threats Accrington bring so that we can go on and play our football.
“We’ll be coming up against a wounded animal. I think John Coleman stated in the press that his team gave one of the worst performances since he had taken over as manager. He’ll be looking for a reaction and he’ll be using this game as an opportunity for his players to stand up and be counted.
“We have a good understanding of what they try to do and they bring good energy and approach to a game. They’ll put the ball forward and try to flood the area so we’ll have to combat that and deal with it.”
“I have to say, our lads have been a credit to themselves this week,” he commented. “They’re disappointed with the recent defeats because we’re creating a positive environment here whereby we strive to win games.
“We’ve had things which haven’t gone our way recently but we’re still creating chances and believing in what we’re trying to do. Earlier in the seasons we had games where things did go our way and now we need to make sure we work hard so that little bit of lady luck does come back our way.
“Within that you need players to be making the right decisions and doing the right things at the right times. We have players here who can do what players at much higher levels are producing, but what we’re looking for is consistency in them producing it. If you have a team making good decisions at the right time you’ll get positive results.
“We’ve had some passages of play this season which have been very pleasing on the eye. What we want to do is create a culture where if a couple of results don’t go our way, but we know what we’re doing is right, we continue doing it.”
The Cumbrians will be without wide man Reggie Lambe as it was confirmed that he has been called up for international duty with Bermuda for their game against Canada.
“He left yesterday and he’ll be back on Wednesday,” he said. “It’s fantastic for him that he’s going to represent his country and we’re really pleased for him.
“Jabo Ibehre is back from his illness, so that’s good news for us, and the only injuries are the ones we know about. We think we’ve got a squad and a team which will be able to do a job for us.”
