Jason Kennedy nominated for Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award
Carlisle United are delighted to confirm that our very own Jason Kennedy has been nominated for the Sky Bet League Two October Player of the Month award.The award, winner to be announced on Friday morning, recognises outstanding individual performances which have contributed to successful team results.
Kennedy, who now has his highest ever season goal-haul of eight - with seven months still to play - caught they eye during United's unbeaten winning run through last month with a string of goal scoring touches which propelled him to the top of the club scoring chart.
Manager Keith Curle said: "The team has been playing well and getting results and Jason has been a huge part of that. He has worked on the training pitch on getting into the right places at the right times and he's getting his rewards for it.
"A target we set him at the start of the season was for him to get into dangerous areas with purpose and intent. He's taken that on board and other players are feeding off it as well. He fully deserves this nomination and we'll all be really pleased for him if he picks it up."
The four nominated players are:
John Akinde (Barnet) – striker
The shining light in a difficult period for his team, Akinde’s bulldozing presence up front and calmness in front of goal accounted for half of his side’s 10 goals in October, notably his brace which rescued a 2-2 at struggling Newport.
Graham Carey (Plymouth Argyle) - midfielder
Two goals, including a lovely 20-yard strike against Yeovil, and five assists in the month for Argyle’s midfield playmaker. Plays with a freedom that allows him to slow the game down and control the game for the league leaders.
Jason Kennedy (Carlisle United) – midfielder
In the goalscoring form of his life, he found the net five times in five October games, the highlight of which was an overhead kick against Morecambe. Always a box-to-box midfielder, he has improved the timing of his runs into the area.
Will Norris (Cambridge United) - goalkeeper
The 23-year-old has made a name for himself as a penalty stopper this season. He saved three in October - two within 90 injury-time seconds to preserve a 2-1 win over Accrington and then another the following week in a 1-1 draw at Blackpool.
