Funds raised at Portsmouth game for MNDA

Carlisle United are delighted to confirm that a total of £2,860.67 was raised for the Motor Neuron Disease Association at the home game against Portsmouth last weekend.

Former-Blue Tony Hopper and his family were our guests of honour and our fans responded to the recent news that Tony had been diagnosed with the condition by digging deep to help with the fundraising effort.

The match programme, which included a four-page interview with Hoppy, sold out - with 50p from every sale going to the fund.

Collections in Foxy’s Restaurant and the Sponsor’s Lounge added to the tally, as did a bucket collection at selected turnstiles and entry points around the ground.

Speaking today, Sue Hopper said: “I can’t thank everyone enough. It’s a fantastic sum of money and it’s going to a very good and worthy cause.

“Tony was overwhelmed by the reaction from the fans when he did the half-time draw and the boys [Dan, Adam and Jack] thoroughly enjoyed their experience as match day mascots.

“Everyone really has been fantastic and that has meant a lot to us. As I say, we just want to thank everyone for coming to the game and for helping the MNDA as they continue to do their research into the causes and potential cures for the illness.”
