BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Wycombe Wanderers

21 September 2016

Everything you need to know ahead of the weekend game

Eight league games unbeaten equals the start to the title winning campaign of 1994/95, when United went on to dominate Division Three, and Keith Curle’s class of 2016 are determined to keep their run going for as long as possible.

The manager started his third year in charge at the club on Monday morning but he insists that there is still more to come despite significant improvement being achieved since that first game (away at Mansfield Town in 2014).

“I know I keep saying this but I look back to where we were when I first got the job and I think we can now be pleased that we have the foundations and building blocks in place which can help to take us forward,” he said. “The fans have bought into the fact they know their team is going to be competitive in every game they play, and they’re giving us their support because of that.

“The pleasing thing for me is we have a culture at this club where we win together, and we lose together. We don’t look to apportion blame or for who is at fault – it’s about looking at the positives and the negatives so we can improve as a unit.

“I have to say, it feels like a club where people are enjoying their football at the moment. Yes, we want to turn draws into wins, but we’re creating chances and we’re playing the football which tells us that will happen.

“Wycombe come to us off the back of a very good result but we will go into it to deal with the threats we know they will bring so that we can impose our style of play on them. It’s the same message every week because we want to our supporters to expect good things from us. It’s a challenge the players enjoy – to go out there and produce a performance every single week.”

The Man in the Middle

Our match referee this weekend is Mr Seb Stockbridge.

Mr Stockbridge has taken charge of nine games so far this season and has shown 39 yellow cards and two reds.

He was with us twice last season – his first was for the interesting encounter back in August 2015 when we beat Chesterfield 3-1 in the League Cup. Jabo Ibehre (2) and Kevin Osei scored our goals with Steven Rigg, Michael Raynes and Gary Dicker going in the book. Spireites scorer Emmanuel Dieseruvwe had his celebrations cut short on the night when he was shown a red card.

His other visit was for our ‘home away’ game at Ewood Park against Plymouth, where the visitors won 2-0. Mark Ellis and Troy Archibald-Henville went in the book for the Cumbrians that afternoon.
